Pirate’s Gantzos(=hook) (or sousoura’s) treasure
Myth or reality?
The pirate came from Samothraki. His first nickname was given because he had the hook in place of cut left hand. The second nickname was given because of the excessive babble which characterized him. Turks
raped and killed his mother. He swore to revenge, becoming a pirate. His district action was the North Aegean (Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Limnos, Ikaria, Saint Efstratios, Psara, Fournoi, Oinouses and Thimena).
He had become the fear and the terror of Turks and had caused heavy casualties. In a battle with Turks, between Thasos and Samothraki, Hook was killed. The boat’s log had managed to give to a monk who lived in “Agio oros” who was his spiritual father. In the log Hook indicated the positions where his treasures were hidden, which are located in Samothraki, Maronia, Sitia (Crete), Skiathos and in some islets in the northern Aegean.
The stories report thousands of gold coins, jewels, precious vessels and precious stones. Somewhere in Marmaritsa Maronia, a cave starts leading into the sea near “Syntaxi” which called “Peiratolimano” or “Fregadokrypti”. Although the outcome of the cave is known, the entry is unknown. They say that “Gantzos” had blocked the entry and whoever find it, will find and discover the treasures that are hidden there. Certainly in this story there are many rumors. A copy of Sousoura’s log (do not know if it is original or fraud) is said to move between gold hunters who are based on it for their researches.
