FLORINA- Chroni’s story
During the Byzantine period, Emperor Justinian, passing by the area of present Florina, had discovered gold pellets and granules of gold. In this area near Florina he built mines in which for a century and more 6,500 people worked for mining gold. Even today in the region of Florina the scars from where he took gold are visible: Great track washed quartz rock at that period. Mr Chronis has been in this region and he found lumps of gold in 1990!
