GOLD DETECTORS
Inside the letter there was a story about two thousand and eight hundred gold coins (2.800). The recipient of this letter did not ever read it. So the lost gold coins and the treasure remain still hidden. Below, you will
understand the reason why these coins and gold signs were not ever found.
During the civil war which was intense in the north part of Greece and in Macedonia there was a man, Kostas Papadakis, starring in this story and sender of this letter. He was just a rebel, tired from the duration of the war. He was not a leader and he had started by fighting Germans when he was 17. He was an active rebel soldier on the mountains of Vermion, Paiko, Tzena, Kaimaktsalan, Grammo- Vitsi and at whole region of Epirus.
On these mountains he fought and lived 8 whole years from 1941 to 1949 and during the war he was on Vermion where he hid the box with the coins. He left Grammo- Vitsi, hunted, went in Albania and from there to Romania, where he lived the rest of his life. In 1978 he sent a letter to his friend Nikolas who lived at the village Kedrona but this letter did not find Nikolas alive. The letter was received by his wife who is the woman that first read it. Inside was the secret about the big treasure consisted of gold coins.
Without Nikola’s help it was impossible for her to discover the treasure because she did not know Nikola’s & Kosta’s meeting place- since the letter mentioned: ” The treasure box is in 50cm depth and 5 meters away on the right of an oak tree, where two men used to meet each other”. This was the place where Kostas used to meet his friend Nikolas with his flock of sheep, drink some water and discuss.

This region, where they search for the tree is about 1200 acres and there are many oak trees. The widow and her children and nephews started searching the “golden tree” but the secret was spread beyond treasure hunters. This happened because they investigated the region with metal detectors and asked help from some treasure hunters from Thessaloniki, Larisa, Veroia, Ioannina, Kozani, Kastoria, Edessa, Ptolemaida, Florina and Athens. They brought their best gold detectors and until today they scan the mountain and its canyons.
Who knows? Will someday gold coins be found or there are some lucky hunters that found them??
