SOLDIER in the region of Evros-A TRUE STORY
Giannis Papadopoulos told us the following real stoty:
“In Evros during serving my military service as a noncommissioned officer, observer of
the 50 Infantry Brigade, I was sent to the third Battalion which had the responsibility of the
outposts in Greek- Turkish- Bulgarian borders between Orestiada and Didimotiho.
There in the outpost I had noticed a neglected and deserted village. Only a beautiful church had
been survived. During this period I noticed a car with two men and a woman. This car seemed
to be from Germany. They went to this village, erected a large tent and stayed there. This
fact intrigued me and I approached to see what happens. I found that they were looking and
detecting the walls of a castled home with gold detectors. I went to the brigade Soufli and
a day after this strange fact I was sent in Alexandroupolis for 10 whole days. But I was still
wondering about this house and these people from Germany.

Back to the outpost, a soldier and I went to the region where these people had camped but
they were gone. We saw that they had dug next to the old house walls about 60cm. There
we found three golden coins and realised there were a treasure in the hole. We were
surprised and searched around but we did not find other golden coins. We shared the three coins.
The one we played the crown letter. And that I lost. That was my luck!”
